Every client gets a bespoke treatment. Dr Carley explains how.
Dr Carley explains different areas of the face which are treated by Botulinum Toxin.
Botox is a brand. The ingredient which produces the desired effect is Botulinum Toxin Type A. This is a muscle relaxant. Other brands include Dysport and Xeomin.
When injected, Botox, or Botulinum Toxin Type A, blocks nerve signals between the nerve and the muscle, preventing the release of acetylacholine (which causes muscles to contract). This results in smoother looking skin. Filler, on the other hand, works by adding volume and thus smoothing out wrinkles and improving shadow contours.
Botox has been around for decades. It was originally intended for people with crossed eyes and facial spasms. But it can also be used to help people with migraines, bladder control and underarm sweating. (Underarm sweating treatment is available at Dr Carley Aesthetics )
The amount needed and the longevity after treatment varies with product and patient. As a guide, Botox lasts from 3 to 6 months.
Botox blocks nerve signals whist filler plumps out and smooths.
